Huntingdon softball takes Game 1, but falls in Game 2 at LaGrange | Schools

Lauren Welch and Brittany Richardson each hit home runs to lead the Huntingdon softball team in a split with LaGrange on Thursday.
Welch was 3-for-4 with a solo home run and four RBIs in a five-inning, 11-3 win in the first game. Richardson hit a two-run homer for Huntingdon’s only hit in a 6-2 loss in Game 2.
In Game 1, Welch and Richardson played a role in Huntingdon’s first four runs. Richardson scored on an error in the first inning. Welch homered in the second inning and added a two-run single in the third to score Gabby Alcantar and Richardson.
Leading 4-1 after three innings, the Lady Hawks (6-8) put the game away in the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth inning, Melissa McClure scored on an error and Jade Reynolds stole home before Kaelten Brown singled to score Alcantar. A Holly Ostrander double scored Alicia Gauker to make it an 8-1 game and Welch singled to score Ostrander and close the scoring in the five-run inning.
Ashley Hawkins and McClure added Huntingdon’s final two runs in the fifth inning.
McClure (3-3) pitched all five innings to earn the win in Game 1. Brooke Meadows (1-3) took the loss in Game 2 in 5 1/3 innings.
Huntingdon travels to Judson on Wednesday.
