Opelika man pleads guilty to production of child pornography charges

Opelika man pleads guilty to production of child pornography charges

U.S. Attorney George L. Beck, Jr., announced today that Kevin Darcy Golden, age 45, of Opelika, Alabama, pled guilty on October 15, 2012, to charges of production of child pornography.  Between at least April and December of 2011, Golden produced numerous videos of female children engaging in sexually explicit conduct.  Specifically, Golden secretly filmed the children removing their clothing while at his residence, and on other occasions Golden filmed himself engaging in sexually explicit conduct with the children while they were unconscious. 

“Performing sexual acts on children is one of the most despicable things a person can do,” stated U.S. Attorney Beck.  “We will not tolerate it and will work feverishly to stop this horrific conduct.”

“Cases related to the exploitation of children are of the most important investigations we shoulder in the FBI, stated Steve Richardson, FBI Special Agent in Charge, Mobile Field Division.

Opelika PD searching for shooting suspect

OPELIKA, AL (WSFA) - Opelika Police are investigating a shooting at an Opelika gas station this afternoon.

Police say the incident happened around 2:45 this afternoon at the Liberty Gas Station on Pepperell Parkway. When authorities arrived on the scene they located a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. There is no word on his condition.

Witnesses to the incident say the suspect fled the scene in a black Ford F-150. Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the Opelika Police Department.

Opelika woman arrested in drug trafficking bust

OPELIKA, AL (WSFA) - WSFA 12 News viewers in Opelika noticed what they considered to be a large police presence on Opelika Road. They contacted the newsroom looking for information. This is what we've been able to confirm. The situation deals with a drug trafficking arrest.

Around 3:00pm on Wednesday, officers of the Opelika Police Department Vice & Narcotics Unit received information about a quantity of Methamphetamine being transported within the city limits.

Officers were able to stop the vehicle, a gray 2005 Nissan Altima, and its driver in the Plum Avenue and Dover Street area.

Officers searched the vehicle and located approximately 361 grams of suspected ICE (crystal methamphetamine) with a street value of approximately $72,000.
