Auburn PD: Notasulga teen charged with breaking and entering

On Wednesday, November 7, 2012 the Auburn Police Division arrested Antonio K. Avery, age 18, of Notasulga, Alabama, on warrants charging him with Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Vehicle and Theft of Property 3rd Degree.  His arrest stems from the investigation of a police report filed this same date in which the victim stated that someone entered her vehicle while it was parked in the 1100 block of Wire Road and stole the car radio.  Avery was transported to the Lee County Detention Center where his bond was set at $4,000.

Beauregard man arrested on burglary and theft charges

On Thursday, November 8, 2012 the Auburn Police Division arrested Steven R. Exum, age 21, of Beauregard, Alabama, on warrants charging him with Burglary 3rd Degree and Theft of Property 1st Degree. 

Exum's arrest stems from the investigation of a police report dated November 7, 2012 in which the victim stated that someone stole property from his business which is located in the 1200 block of Opelika Road.  Exum, who was developed as a suspect in the case, was contacted at a residence in Beauregard. 

The stolen property was recovered from the home.  Exum was transported to the Lee County Detention Center where his bond was set at $6,000.

Opelika man found shot to death over the weekend

Opelika man found shot to death over the weekend

OPELIKA, AL (WSFA) - Opelika Police have initiated a homicide investigation after a man was found dead from a shot to the leg on Saturday morning.

Authorities were called to the 100 block of South 3rd Street around 1:40 a.m. on Saturday. When they arrived, they located 21-year-old Jarron Holloway lying on the ground near a residence with no signs of life.

Holloway was pronouced dead on the scene fron an apparent gunshot wound to the leg. His body has been transported to the Department of Forensic Sciences Medical Examiner's office in Montgomery for an autopsy.

Police say this case is being investigated as a homicide and remaind under investigation by the Opelika Police Department.

AL Dept of Labor prosecutes several Alabamians for unemployment compensation fraud

Alabama Department of Labor Commissioner Tom Surtees announced today that the Department has successfully prosecuted several Alabamians for unemployment compensation fraud. The following individuals were charged with violating the Alabama Unemployment Compensation Law by making false statements in claims for benefits:

Feleicia Cobb, of Montgomery, was tried in Montgomery County District Court on October 22, 2012. An investigation by Labor’s Benefit Payment Control Section determined that Cobb received a total of $3,672.00 in benefits to which she was not entitled.

Cobb pled guilty and was sentenced to one year in jail, which was suspended. She was also ordered to pay a $262.00 fine, court costs, and restitution in the amount of benefits received illegally.

Roland Prickett, of Opelika, was tried in Lee County District Court on October 30, 2012.
