Herb Day II a feature at Pioneer Park's Second Saturday | Community Spirit
Title (Max 100 Characters)
The second of two special Herb Days workshops is presented at Pioneer Park in Loachapoka this Second Saturday, June 11, with herbalists Tia Gonzalez and Jeannette Frandsen providing instruction. Participation in the first session is not required for participation in this one, and no experience is required.
Herb Day II instruction will begin with information on the basics of bed preparation and fertilization, as well as advice on managing insects and disease. Marian Edel of Tallapoosa Master Gardeners will then give a session on preparing simple and delicious herb fare, and will provide lunch to those attending. Participants will then tour Pioneer Park’s herb garden before sowing seeds, making cuttings, and dividing herbs.
Herb Day II begins at 8:45 a.m. Those wishing to attend must pre-register by June 9 by contacting Jeannette Frandsen at angiewoad2@charter.net, or Tia Gonzalez greentia@zoho.com or at 334-444-2857.
As always, traditional Second Saturday demonstrations are being conducted this week, including spinning, weaving, open hearth cooking, blacksmithing and gardening. All activities except the Herb Days program are free of charge, and Pioneer Park opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 4 p.m.
Pioneer Park is the site of the Lee County Historical Society, a non-profit organization established in 1968. Membership is open to all interested parties. For more information, see www.leecountyhistoricalsociety.org or call Sheila Eckman at 334-750-9666.
