Governor Robert Bentley will join members of the Alabama Agribusiness Council on Tuesday to release a report on the economic impact of agriculture and forestry in Alabama.

The study was compiled by Auburn University’s Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology.  It was a collaborative effort between several public and private entities to develop a baseline of data to underscore the importance of agriculture and forestry products in Alabama.  The last time a report of this scope was compiled was in 1989.
 
Tuesday’s news conference is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. at the RSA Plaza Terrace, located at 770 Washington Avenue, 6th Floor in Montgomery

Washington – Edison Electric Institute (EEI) today honored Alabama Power Company with the association’s 2012 Emergency Assistance Award for its efforts to help other electric utilities restore power after derecho windstorms hit the Midwest and Middle Atlantic regions in June, and after Hurricane Sandy walloped the East Coast in October.

The Emergency Assistance Award has been presented each year to EEI member electric utility companies since 1998. It recognizes extraordinary efforts undertaken in restoring power to another utility company’s customers whose electric service was disrupted by severe weather conditions or other natural events. The award was presented during EEI’s winter CEO meeting.

OPELIKA, AL - At the Opelika City Council meeting Tuesday, Mayor Gary Fuller announced Daewon America will be investing an additional $16 million in capital for new manufacturing equipment and hiring 30 new associates.

The additional investment is for a new coil spring line expansion and will bring Daewon America’s total capital investment in Opelika to over $80 million.

Mayor Fuller expressed his gratitude to Daewon America for their continued growth in Opelika, “We’re pleased that Daewon is making this additional investment in Opelika. Their need for additional capacity is a good indication that Daewon is enjoying success here in Opelika.
